Maulana Tahir Ashrafi Appointed as Special Representative for Inter-Religious Harmony

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has designated Maulana Tahir Ashrafi as his Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Inter-Religious Harmony.

In this role, Ashrafi will be advising the prime minister on matters pertaining to the Middle East and Islamic countries.

The appointment was formalized through a notification issued by Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Tuqeer Shah. Notably, Maulana Tahir Ashrafi had previously served as the Prime Minister’s Special Representative during Imran Khan’s tenure.

This development comes in the context of Ashrafi’s longstanding involvement in inter-religious dialogue and his active role in promoting harmony and understanding among various faiths.

In a recent demonstration of this commitment, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, engaged in a meeting with Dr. Ali Erbas, the President of Religious Affairs of Turkey. During their discussion, both leaders vehemently condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinian territories, including Gaza.

They mutually called upon the United Nations and the international community to take more proactive measures to immediately halt the brutal bombardment.

The leaders stressed that Israel’s actions are tantamount to severe war crimes, involving inhumane atrocities inflicted on the people of Gaza. These include attacks on schools, hospitals, and relief teams, constituting an alarming breach of international humanitarian standards.

Furthermore, both leaders underlined the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue in accordance with United Nations resolutions and advocated for the restoration of the pre-1967 status of Palestine. This joint stance highlights the need for a peaceful and just resolution to the longstanding conflict in the region.

Maulana Tahir Ashrafi’s appointment as SAPM underscores the caretaker government’s focus on addressing issues related to inter-religious harmony and Middle East affairs, with a goal to promote peace and understanding in the region.
