PayPal and Stripe to Launch Operations Soon in Pakistan


Pakistan is on the edge of welcoming online payment trolls PayPal and Stripe, and the anticipation is growing, especially among freelancers and the IT industry.

This significant development will open up new avenues for millions of Pakistani consumers, enabling them to seamlessly send, receive, and hold funds in multiple currencies.

Interim Caretaker Minister Dr. Umar Saif has expressed optimism about the imminent launch of PayPal and Stripe in Pakistan, marking a substantial step forward. Saif, a renowned tech pioneer, revealed that the government is actively engaged in negotiations with these global payment gateways. He emphasized that the country’s case has been presented to these companies, and the public can expect positive news within the next six weeks.

The move to provide these services is especially aimed at benefiting the thriving freelancer community, and the recent revolutionary initiatives undertaken by the ministry are expected to significantly boost the IT and telecom sectors.


In earlier discussions, the IT Minister expressed strong commitment to bringing online services to Pakistan to facilitate freelancers. He presented his comprehensive plan to the caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, outlining the transformation of the technology sector. The prime minister not only approved the plan but also commended the efforts to introduce PayPal and Stripe to Pakistan.

The ambitious plan also encompasses strategies to enhance IT exports. This includes the institutionalization of dollar retention accounts, the issuance of IT corporate debit cards to facilitate the seamless flow of funds, streamlining tax matters, and the training of 200,000 IT professionals, all with the goal of adding billions to IT exports.

Dr. Saif expressed his vision on social media, stating, “Bring PayPal and Stripe to Pakistan and establish co-working spaces for 500,000 freelancers to increase their potential to an additional $3 billion per year.” The plan further includes the launch of Starlink in Pakistan, which aims to improve connectivity across the country.
